I am a movie nut. I love the anticipation of a good movie opening. The ad campaigns and viral websites that accompany some movies are fascinating. I remember driving by the movie theater in Austin, TX and shaking my head seeing tents that had been up for days for people who had been camping out [...]

M.E. Retreat: Serving

Finally, the last post (well maybe one more) of the retreat. Dr. Eldridge finished with Serving. The emphasis was on how do we view those we lead and what kind of leadership that leads us to. The Transactional Leader leads people based upon what they can produce for the organization. Clearly, people are expendable. The [...]

This will be the last Pastors’ Conference before the fall. As usual it is going to have a little extra. Dr. John Lilley, President, Baylor University will be our speaker. Now when the president of Baylor is our speaker we are treated real nice: real plates, glasses, utensiles, and the food is brought to [...]
M.E. Retreat: Shaped

Dr. Eldridge challenged us by saying, They will not change until they see change in us. Using the research from the book Reveal Dr. Eldridge continued with flaws we have allowed in our church programs that need to be reshaped into vessels that are usable. We trick ourselves into thinking we are changing, but [...]
M.E. Retreat: Broken

The first session Dr. Eldridge led was titled Broken. It centered on Jeremiah 18:1-6 and Matthew 16:24-25. He also used the acronym EGO for Edging God Out. Two things that edge God out are Pride and Fear. These come from playing to the crowd instead of the audience of one.
As leaders pride and [...]

I had a great time at the Texas Baptist Ministers of Education Retreat. We met at FBC Salado and Tenroc Ranch again this year. We were on our own for lodging. Daryl Eldridge (Co-founder & President of Rockbridge Seminary) was the keynote speaker and David Butler led us in worship. Breakout conferences were led by Julie O’Teter (Emotional Intelligence for Leaders), [...]
