I am the Minister of Education at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church in Waco, TX. This is a picture of the journey I travel in my profession. My hope is it helps define who I am and what I do.
No that is not a picture of my journey, this blog is. That is a picture of me and my wife, Beth Ann. I didn’t mean to intentionally confuse you, but I can see where you might have had questions. Beth Ann and I were married in the summer of 2006. The Lord has blessed us in many different ways since then and I am loving her more and more each day.
So why “Moving In Cycles Of Dicipleship?” It took a few weeks to decide what to title this blog. Some guys use phrases to denote their authenticity, words or names from other languages that no one really knows, or catchy titles with odd use of capital letters. Either way, they somehow relate to them personally. I choose my title because that is what I am trying to get people to do.
When it comes down to the nitty gritty I want to be able to see myself and others “moving” in our discipleship. For Park Lake we have defined that as moving in cycles of Worship, Growing, and Reaching Out. Those are not a special Biblical formula, just what I could make out of our church’s forgotten, but voted on vision statement. It’s not deep and the process is certainly not polished, but if you ask anyone in my church about the steps in the cycles they will kind of roll their eyes and say, “Worship, Grow, and Reach Out.”
I am always looking for people to network with in ministry. I am Southern Baptist so I like to meet ‘n’ eat. Park Lake is a traditional church and I am working with our Sunday School to be more “external” and “missional.”
Hi Clint — I came across your blog as I was trying to find a website for the Ruth Project and couldn’t help but notice that we attended a lot of the same sessions at the Next Big Idea conference.
I’d like to learn more about what you are doing at Park Lake re: reaching out to the community.
I run a website called http://www.actlocallywaco.org whose purpose is to help churches get more involved in helping to heal hunger and poverty in Waco. So far the site is mainly an event list; I’d love to pick your brain about what might be helpful features to add to the site.
I’d like to take you up on your “meet and eat” offer! (I’m Baptist too.)
Would you drop me a line? Ashley_Thornton@baylor.edu. — Thanks! Looking forward to it! — ABT
